Production area

Located in the Côte de Beaune, between Beaune and Volnay, Pommard marks the spot where the “Côte” sinks slightly toward Autun. The lower portion is made up of ancient alluvial deposits while the mid-slope region consists of clay-limestone soils that are well-drained due to gravel made up of rocky debris. Higher still, Oxfordian (Jurassic) marls along with brown calcic and limestone soils can be found. Iron oxide gives a reddish hue to the soil in certain areas. Eastern and souther exposure. Altitude : between 250 and 330 metres.

Origins

The best climates classified as Pommard Premier Cru are located on the belly of the slope, with a good limestone content of about 50 centimeters thick. The roots can thus reach the limestone mother rock which is more or less altered and riddled with numerous cracks which ensure an excellent natural drainage.

The climate "Les Poutures" is located very close to the village and means pastures, where the animals of the village could come.
