Production area

Meursault is an appellation from the Côte de Beaune. The vineyards are located to the south of Beaune and cover a surface of 395,84 hectares. Meursault is best known for its white wines which represent 97% of production (382,32 ha). The name "les Rougeots" is derived an ancient diease known as "rougeot parasitaire" (black rot) that turned the vine leaves red or 'rouge'. This is undoubtedly the origin of this vineyard's name as the leaves here have a tendency to turn red...

Origins

The subsoil is mainly composed of clay and limestone. The grapes for this wine were harvested from different vineyards located both on the flatlands and on the slopes. The vines enjoy southern and south-eastern exposure.

Vinification and maturing

Grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted to respect our rigourous selection process. Once at the winery, the grapes go in a bladder press: squeezed from the inside of the press, they receive an equal amount of pressure, ensuring the best quality of juice with a minimal exposure to oxygen. The vinification and ageing take place in wooden vats and barrels with a proportion of 35% new oak that will give more structure to the wine and bring soft tannins as well as woody notes. The wine is aged on lees for 14 months; keeping the lees and stirring them accosionnaly will developp the complexity and aromas of the wine.

Lobster, crayfish, poultry or veal in cream sauce, foie gras and blue cheese.

Vintage : 2017

A happy combination of quality and quantity;
This is the only region that enjoyed this rare combination. And yet the vegetative cycle was upset: The winter was very cold and there were early frosts in spring. Conditions were optimal for rapid flowering, but there was hail and the drought in the summer.
Harvesting was very early, starting in the August heat. After years of low yields, the grapes were abundant with thick skins that promised lovely color. There were significant disparities in terms of maturity between the whites and reds and between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. But excellent health and easy vinification meant a great vintage for those who got their planning right.
