Production area

Saint-Aubin is a village appellation in the Côte de Beaune, knowns for its prestigious dry, long-keeping white wines, as well as some very fine red wines. Saint-Aubin's vineyards are planted on various south, south-east, south-west and north-east facing ridges. Its slopes are fairly steep, especially those adjoining the Puligny-Montrachet vineyards.

Origins

The vines, 40-50 years old, are planted on clay-limestone soil. They are planted mainly on the right-hand side of the wide combe that winds its way up to La Rochepot. The Hameau de Gamay has given its name to this Premier Cru.

Varietal

100% Chardonnay

Tasting notes

COLOUR : Pale gold hints.
NOSE : Very delicate, with white flowers.
PALATE : Very supple, with plenty of mineral character.

Vinification and maturing

The grapes in this vineyard were hand-picked and sorted as soon as they arrived in the winery. They were then pressed in a pneumatic press during 2 hours which allows for optimum extraction of the juice without damaging the fruit. Vinification and ageing took place in oak barrels using 15% new oak with occasional stirring.

Food and wine pairing

Poultry, firm-textured fish and grilled or steamed crustaceans would be at ease. For the cheese board, prefer fresh cheeses like goat cheese, Brillat-Savarin or Délice de Pommard.

Serving suggestions

12 à 14°C

Ageing potential

4 to 6 years.

Vintage : 2017

2017, a happy combination of quality and quantity.
This is the only region that enjoyed this rare combination. And yet the vegetative cycle was upset: The winter was very cold and there were early frosts in spring. Conditions were optimal for rapid flowering, but there was hail and the drought in the summer.
Harvesting was very early, starting in the August heat. After years of low yields, the grapes were abundant with thick skins that promised lovely color. There were significant disparities in terms of maturity between the whites and reds and between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. But excellent health and easy vinification meant a great vintage for those who got their planning right.
